EVENT RUNDOWN
DAY 1
Circular Talks #2
The Future of Textile Circularity in Indonesia
As part of efforts to encourage green economic growth and implement a circular economy, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas will hold the Green Economy Expo 2024 from July 3-5, 2024. This event aims to: 1) bring together stakeholders (government and non-government) to identify solutions to issues related to the green economy; 2) promote green technology and innovation currently being developed by national stakeholders; and 3) provide opportunities to explore and exchange ideas in the context of green technology and innovation. The main topics to be discussed at this exhibition include the development of a circular economy ecosystem, a comprehensive energy transition, and strengthening research and development.
The Green Economy Expo 2024 offers participants the opportunity to build networks, establish partnerships, and create synergies to drive future change. Key stakeholders expected to be actively involved in the dialogue include representatives from the central and provincial governments, industry, academia, financial institutions, and civil society. The Green Economy Expo will also feature various talk shows and thematic circular talks over three days. These discussions will focus on strategies for implementing an effective Circular Economy, with a particular emphasis on collaboration among stakeholders.
Implementing a circular economy in the textile sector can provide economic, social and environmental benefits, namely increasing GDP in the range of IDR 19.3 trillion in 2030, creating 164,000 green jobs by 2030 (75% of total jobs are female workers), reducing waste generation by 14% compared to business as usual in 2030, and contributing to reducing GHG emissions by 0.4 million tonnes of CO2. The circular economy strategy for the textile sector includes developing infrastructure and strengthening the national textile circular economy ecosystem and EPR policies, reducing textile product waste, and increasing resource efficiency in textile production.
