EVENT RUNDOWN
DAY 2
Circular Talks #5
Green Investments: Powering the Circular Economy in Indonesia
As part of efforts to promote green economic growth and the implementation of circular economy, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas plans to organize Green Economy Expo 2024. This event aims to 1) bring together stakeholders (government and non-government) to identify solutions to issues related to the green economy; 2) promote green technologies and innovations currently being developed by national stakeholders; and 3) provide opportunities for idea exploration and exchange in the context of green technologies and innovations. Key topics that will be discussed at the expo include the development of circular economy ecosystems, energy transition, and strengthening research and development.
Green Economy Expo 2024 is an opportunity for participants to network, forge partnerships, and build synergies to drive future change. The selected stakeholders are expected to be actively involved in the dialog including representatives from the national and provincial governments, industry, academia, financial institutions, and civil society. At the Green Economy Expo, various talk shows were also organized into 3 days (July 3-5). The Circular Talks explores around strategies to create a circular economy ecosystem in the entire value chain, which can be supported by the existence of green and sustainable financing to accelerate the circular economy transition.
With the urgency of triple planetary crisis, the implementation of circular economy is needed to address climate change and other global challenges, such as biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution, by decoupling economic activities from the consumption of finite resources. Circular economy is defined as an economic model that applies a systemic approach to minimize the use of resources, design a product to last as long as possible, and return the waste from production and consumption processes into the value chain. The implementation of circular economy in five prioritized industrial sectors could add IDR 593-638 trillion to Indonesia’s GDP by 2030. However, this will require an investment of IDR 308 trillion per year to build the required infrastructure and escalate circular economy business opportunities.
Through the theme of Green Investments: Powering the Circular Economy in Indonesia, Circular Talks is expected to attract stakeholders to discuss the potential financing and investment scheme for circular business models in creating a circular economy ecosystem.
